Barrie Brown

Barrie Brown is an award winning freelance photojournalist. He concentrates on producing photographic essays which bring interesting perspectives to his stories and original approaches to the images used to illustrate them. His work on Fashion Portraiture borrows many of the skills from photojournalism to produce natural images. A small sample of his photojournalism and portraiture work is available here for preview.

Photojournalism
Magazine and newspaper editors can request specific stories and high resolution digital files for publication by contacting Barrie Brown Photography and supplying details of their requirements. Stories are tailored to specific magazine requirements and generally range in size from 300 words for a short piece to 1200-3000 words for a feature article. Short articles may have a gallery of 6 to 15 images and features are usually illustrated by a gallery of 60-80 high quality digital photographs from which editors can select the most suitable images for their needs.

Editors may also suggest specific stories without obligation for ultimate purchase when the photographer is located in an area from which editors require story material. In this way editors can have access to work shot specifically for their needs without being committed to follow through with a purchase. In these cases, in the event that the editor does not take up the prepared material, full rights reside with the photographer and the story may be offered for sale elsewhere.

Client editors are supplied with links to pages from which they can download master files directly. All sales are at the publication's normal rates and payments can be made by direct bank transfer to the photographer's bank account, by Paypal or by credit card. These options, along with the appropriate links, are detailed in the invoice email.

In these times of "citizen journalists" I need to stress that no material is offered just for the thrill of seeing it published, and no material can be published without the granting of specific rights to the publisher by the photographer in an official invoice.

Fashion Portraiture
Fashion Portraiture is designed to give an artistic fashion look to traditional portraiture whether it is portraits, boudoir or pre-wedding photography. Shoots involve several clothing changes and can be done both in studio and on location. Pre-wedding photogaphy is also done with this same fashion/photojournalism look to retain a very natural look even when photographs may be set up and involves the use of several environmental locations in consultation with the client in order to obtain a range of images for use in a 100 page printed book. Printed books are also available for Fashion Portraiture and Boudoir sessions although they are usually smaller in size.

Technical Detail
Digital images are very high resolution and are shot exclusively with a Canon full-frame DSLR cameras: Canon 5D SR, Canon 5D Mark III and Canon 1Ds Mark III. The very high resolutions produced by these cameras, particularly the 50MB files from the 5D SR allow for very big enlargements which retain very clear details. Fashion Portraiture is printed on Hahnemuehle fine art archival papers with Canon prnters using archival inks. This combination has a longevity exceeding 200 years.
